The program was developed under the Global Network of Regional Centres for Sustainable Energy (GN-SEC) by the United Nations Industrial Development Organization (UNIDO), the Organization for Sustainable Energy and Climate Resilience of Small Islands (SIDS DOCK) and the Spanish Centre for Research in Energy, Environment and Technology (CIEMAT).
The Developing of inclusive markets for sustainable energy technology in Small Island Developing States (SIDS) requires a critical mass of professionals in the public and private sectors. However, many SIDS lacks training institutions and quality programs that respond to the particular needs and priorities of the islands and are affordable.
The online program is available free of charge and is disseminated by the ECOWAS Centre for Renewable Energies and Energy Efficiency (ECREEE), the Caribbean Centre for Renewable Energies and Energy Efficiency (CCREEE), the Pacific’s Centre for Renewable Energies and Energy Efficiency (PCREEE) and the SADC’s Centre for Renewable Energies and Energy Efficiency (SACREEE). It is currently available in English, Spanish and Portuguese.
There are two ways to participate:
The program includes nine online modules, which describe and analyze the following energy technologies and issues: Photovoltaic Solar Energy, Solar thermal and ocean energy technologies, bioenergy, energy efficiency and thermal optimization in buildings, mini-grids and energy storage on island electrical systems, electric mobility and Overview of energy, climate change mitigation and resilience in island regions. The Learning takes place on an e-learning platform and delivery can be done in self-study or through trainers.
The program has been developed in compliance with the CIEMAT quality criteria in terms of scientific and technical knowledge, Information and Communication Technology (ICT) tools, and methodological and pedagogical resources. Large-scale dissemination of the program is planned for 2020. The development of the program has been co-financed by the Spanish Agency for International Development Cooperation (AECID) and the Austrian Development Agency (ADA).
We thank the various energy experts from SIDS in the Pacific, the Caribbean, the Indian Ocean and Africa for their contribution to the quality assurance of the program. The program will be continually improved based on the feedback received
