Dr. Marco Antonio Flores Barahona assumed the leadership of the SICA Regional Center for Renewable Energy and Energy Efficiency (SICREEE) as the Center's manager.
Marco Flores, from Honduras, holds a bachelor degree in physics. He subsequently completed a Master's degree in Renewable Energy and a PhD in Science, in the area of energy. He has been a professor and researcher since 1985 at Universidad Nacional Autónoma de Honduras (UNAH), where he also created and currently directs the Energy Research Institute (IIE).
He has been working in the energy sector for 30 years, during which he has served twice as General Director of Energy in the Secretariat of Natural Resources, Environment and Energy (SERNA) (1997 and 2006), was National Coordinator of the Latin American Energy Organization (OLADE), represented Honduras at the Energy and Environment Partnership with Central America (AEA) and was National Coordinator of the Solar and Wind Energy Resources Assessment (SWERA) Project, implemented by of the United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP) .
He has also carried out consultancies and participated in various projects with international actors such as the Inter-American Development Bank (IDB), the Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ), the United Nations Economic Commission for Latin America and the Caribbean (ECLAC), the Central American Commission for Environment and Development (CCAD), among others.
